Nabeel Al-Amoudi, president of Saudi Ports Authority, revealed that Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP) manages 60 percent of the sea traffic in the Red Sea.
Al-Amoudi was speaking at a reception held recently in JIP to welcome the largest container ship in the world, CSCL GLOBE, with a maximum capacity of 19,100 twenty-foot containers, owned and operated by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL).
He explained that the port is qualified to receive the largest ships in the world, and welcoming CSCL GLOBE here at the port confirms the trust put by international sea liners in the Saudi ports and its capability to handle and manage such advanced technologies. "This event is an opportunity to prove the size of development and growth of JIP in terms of the services, facilities, infrastructure and the qualified personnel," he added.
"Furthermore, it demonstrates the use of the latest technology to effectively deliver the required services and the continuous development in the port to keep pace with the global norms and standards, especially that sea transport and shipment can strongly drive the wheel of economic development," he added.
He pointed out the interest and attention the Kingdom gives to this event is due to the important location and operations of the JIP as it is located in the center of the global navigation line that connects Asia to Europe.
Mohammad Al-Mudaris, CEO of the Specialized Industrial Services Co. Ltd. (SISCO), owner and shareholder of the Red Sea Gateway Terminal Company (RSGT), said the event reflects the growth and development witnessed by JIP in terms of the services provided and the qualified personnel. "About 65 percent of the exports and imports of Saudi Arabia pass through this port. Meanwhile, the port is in preparations to receive the new generation of giant ships," he added.
Giving some details on the preparations and readiness to welcome the new giant ships, Soren Hansen, managing director of RSGT, said the company will focus on maintaining and developing its relations with all its partners.
